Born in 1929, Saitama, Japan.
Toshio Akiyama received his music education at Musashino School of Music in Tokyo, the University of Tokyo School of Fine Arts, and Eastman School of Music in the US.
He is past president of Japanese Band Directors Association, the Asia and Pacific Band Directors Association, and is active in the World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles. He is also an Honorary member of the American Bandmasters Association.
His publications include “March Music Index 218”, “Band Music Index 552”, and several band method books.
In 1992 he received the International Award for his contributions to bands from the Midwest Band Orchestra Clinic (Chicago).
He retired Conductor of SCB in 2000. Lately he has conducted Omiya Community Band where he lives.
In 2008, We Sony Concert Band gave him the title of Honarary Conductor of us.
